Paul was off on President's day, so we planned a short family hike in Ahwatukee on the back side of South Mountain. What a beautiful day in the desert! We all really enjoyed it - and it was educational too!

| We had fun thinking about what made this hole and what kind of animals lived in it. |

| A close-up - love this shot! |

| This photo should appear below the Petroglyphs sign, but I'm not sure how to rearrange them so . . . here are some of the Hohokam Petroglyphs that still exist in the area. Very intriguing. |

| At Marker 5. It was slightly chilly that day even with the sun shining so brightly. |
 |
| At Marker 7! Paul & the kids went all the way up to Marker 11. |

| A close-up of some of the petroglyphs. |
 |
| Now for the crazy shots (maybe they didn't get enough water to drink?) |
 |
| Jack loved wearing his Safari vest (a Christmas present from Uncle Dave & Aunt Sarah.) |
 |
| A close up of the very important paper scroll that he had made and carried around with him. |
 |
| This picture is totally Jack!! What a sweetie! |

This post reminded me that I never got around to posting pics from our spring hike last year in the San Tan Mountains, which are only about 25 minutes from our house. Spring is a great time for desert hiking in AZ!
