TeenPact ~ Feb. 2012

Jared and Gracie had a wonderful opportunity this past Feb. to attend the one-day class of TeenPact at the AZ State Capitol. TeenPact exists "to train youth to understand the political process, value their liberty, defend their Christian faith and engage the culture at a time in their lives when, typically, they do not care about such things."

TeenPact is a national organization that offers a 4-day workshop for teenagers and a one-day class for students ages 8-12. They also offer various political communication workshops for teens and national conventions for alumni. I was highly impressed with the young people who ran the entire seminar. Most were older teens who exhibited incredible leadership & communication skills. They performed skits, gave mini "lectures," led the kids on a prayer walk around the capitol to pray for the different branches of our government, and encouraged/facilitated the kids when in committees.

Changing Lives to Change the World

The kids participated in a ice-breaker to open the day.

Each child had lots of homework to complete before attending, part of which was writing their own bill.
Upon attending, every bill was assigned to committee and the students then debated and decided which bills
would go to the floor for debate - all using Roberts Rules of Order.

TeenPact has a very strict and modest dress code, which required us to go on a whirlwind shopping trip
for pants and a tie the night before! Thanks to my friend, Darlene, for giving Jared this blazer.

Gracie came up with an awesome bill to change the legal driving age in AZ to 18.
