Happy 10th Birthday, Jared! Aug. 5, 2009

Jared's 10th birthday wish was to play laser tag with his dad and a few other "guy" friends. He had never played (has always wanted to) so we couldn't help but grant his wish. Last Monday night, the guys all gathered for an evening of fun. (I stayed home w/Jack & Gracie and we watched a movie instead.) Afterwards, Jared thanked us profusely and told me, "It was so awesome!" So glad you enjoyed your bday, Jared boy. Can't believe you're already 10 -oh how the years go by!

(kids) - Kyle Dirks, Stephen & Nick Bailey, Jared, Anthony Crisci and Josh Reef
Thanks for making Jared's bday so much fun!

Wed. evening (Jared's actual bday) we enjoyed a family BBQ complete with a Costco designer chocolate cake. (Jared picked that out ~ much to my delight :-)

On Jared's Lego wish list: Armored Assault Tank. Lots of Lego Star Wars lovers in this house!

Jack being silly.

Jared opening his "Book of Mottoes" journal

A "Book of Mottoes" is a journal of favorite quotes, scriptures, and sayings. I have kept a similar journal for many years and saw this idea for kids on one of Simply Charlotte Mason's newsletters. (We love to use many of Charlotte Mason's ideas in our homeschool, so this seemed like a natural fit. For more info, you can go to Simplycharlottemason.com) I found a "handsome" faux leather lined journal at Target that says "Trust in the Lord" on the cover. Jared can now, in his BEST handwriting, record those ideas & scriptures that mean the most to him. I hope he treasures it for years to come.
